August 13, 2013 Anger is obvious; most patient of the lot can’t handle critics easily. However, when angry Lee Westwood decided to counter his ‘haters’ on twitter for criticizing his performance in the final round of the US PGA Championship, it was not accepted as mature decision from the 40–year-old Champion. He gave back what is called ‘tit for tat’ reply to all offensive tweets.

It followed after Westwood returned a disappointing six-over 76, leaving him 13 shots behind the winner Jason Dufner and still without a major win on Sunday.

On a comment from one Twitter user to “learn how to putt”, response from Westwood’s verified @WestwoodLee Twitter account read told him: “Will you get a life first”. Another pointed out that “drink doesn’t solve anything”, to which Westwood, replied: “Oh it does! Plenty!”

Further tweets from the account included: “You minions need to live from the inside out rather than the outside in!!!!”, “Just sick of negative assholes sat behind a keyboard with a pitiful life mate !thats all!” and “Like I give a f..k what the haters say! That’s life! Some people will always be just a little bit better and work just a little bit harder”.

Then came the tweet from the British golfer to clarify that the comments were “not [aimed at] my decent followers, of course. Just the pricks that should be locked up by the twitter police,” he wrote.

He further went on with tweets that seem to provoke his critics, including: “Ahhh just when I’m in the mood the haters all go quiet! They must have the porn on! Ahhh the haters have all gone quiet now ! Obviously didn’t like a bit back at them! Pussy’s

“Come on you girly boy trolls! I’ve only won just over 2 mill on course this year! Need you to keep me entertained a bit longer than this!” Lee tweeted hiding his own frustration.

It is also true that one can’t completely blame Westwood for feeling stung.

At 40, he has emerged as a mostly sympathetic figure, often burdened with a weighty title of the Best Player to Never Win a Major. He contended in all four of majors this year, and has carded 8 top-three finishes in majors during his career.

If one tries to read between the lines of Westwood’s angry tweets and see them as a sign of the frustration he feels toward himself. The “two million” he bragged of winning buys a lot of things, but it clearly hasn’t cured all of Westwood’s pains.

Did Westwood regret his tweet ire?

Yes, Monday morning, having slept it off, Westwood took to Twitter again, this time to apologize to his sponsors and “true followers” for his boozy rant.

Westwood is ought to realize this  fact soon that his celebrity status is bound to responses like this. Moreover, he has to take it in the stride.
