December 31, 2013: World’s No. 1 golfer, Eldrick Tont ‘Tiger’ Woods turned 38 this Monday. And a nagging question still haunts him, will he win a major in the new year? and also, whether he will be able to break Sam Snead’s record of 82 PGA wins and become the career leader in wins on the PGA TOUR?

Back in November, Woods said this about matching Jack Nicklaus’ mark of 18 majors: “It takes a career. It takes a long time to win alot of major championships. Since 2008 I’ve been there with a chance to win half of them.”

Woods is not wrong. Since ’09, he has nine top-10 finishes in 18 appearances in majors, including blowing a two-stroke 54-hole lead in the 2009 PGA Championship.

As of now, Woods has 14 majors, but a lot of golf left. However, if we reconsider the facts, only two players have won four or more majors after their 38 birthday: Nicklaus, who won four; and Ben Hogan, who won five. Will Tiger Woods be the third one?

Woods will start the year within three wins of Snead’s all-time mark of 82 after winning five times on Tour in 2013. But Woods has been stuck at 14 in his pursuit of Jack Nicklaus’ all-time record of major championship wins since 2008.

Let’s hope that the most successful golfer in the world comes out winner in 2014.
