September 19, 2015: The past few months have been an arduous adventure for Jeev Milkha Singh, as he traveled across Europe testing his form and self belief. At 11-under 205 (68-69-68), Jeev is just six behind the leaders – Martin Kaymer & Jens Fahrbring, both at 17-under deep into their third round (as at the time of this report). Shiv Kapur made two under 70 in the third round to remain inside the top 30 of the Italian Open at 9-under 207 (65-72-70). SSP Chawrasia was lying a further two shots back in T50 (69-69-71), with the Italian set for a thrilling finish on Sunday. (Latest Golf News)
Chawrasia made a thrilling fight back on Friday to survive the cut by making three birdies in the last six holes of his second round. Embracing safety, the golfer from Kolkata made 13 straight pars in his third round. Chawrasia made his first birdie of the day on the par-5 14th hole, but a bogey at the next hole set him back immediately.
Unfazed, Chawrasia attacked the pin on the par-5 16th hole and was rewarded for his audacity with an eagle. The course took one back though with a bogey at the final hole to leave Chawrasia with a 71.
Shiv Kapur started his third round with a birdie off the first hole, adding another just before the turn to go two under for the round. That is where he would end day three, as the back nine saw him suffer two bogeys that negated the effect of the birdies he made at 14 & 16.
Jeev suffered an early blip when he made bogey at the fifth hole. But that was to be only blot as he marched around the course knocking down two birdies and an eagle at the 14th to make a third straight round in the 60s.
Ever since his return from injury, Singh has been searching for answers and he seems to have finally found a few of them this week in Milan. He now needs just another round on Sunday for his best finish in recent memory.
