Jeev Milkha Singh continued his impressive run in Italy with a third straight round under 70

September 18, 2015: Jeev Milkha Singh overcame an early hiccup to post a solid 69 and help himself into T21 at the halfway stage of the Open D’Italia in Milan. After posting a brilliant 65 on the first day, Shiv Kapur floundered in the second round to slip down to T35 from T2. Kapur needed a couple of late birdies to climb back to T21. SSP Chawrasia was stuck in a desperate battle to save himself from the cut, but consecutive birdies late in his round should help him survive the blade. (Read more in Golf)

Kapur was in for bitter disappointment – he struggled to regain the touch that helped him to a 7-under start on the first day. Starting on the 10th tee, Kapur made a five at the par-4 13th hole. He made a birdie at the 16th but that was just enough to ensure that he turned in an even 36 shots.

Things did not improve significantly on his way home – he surrendered bogeys at the 3rd and the 6th holes to slide over par yet again for the round. Birdies at the 7th and 9th helped Kapur stay even, but at 7-under 137 he failed to add to the great start he had on Thursday.

Jeev followed up his 68 in the first round with a 69 on Friday to reach the halfway stage at 7-under 137. After a disappointing double bogey at the par-4 second hole, Singh recovered well to make five birdies – two on the front and three on the return stretch. It was an impressive effort considering that Singh had no blot on his card, after the initial damage.

Chawrasia was working off a 69 in the first round – beginning his quest from the 10th tee, the golfer from Kolkata negated a bogey at the 13th with an immediate birdie at the next hole. He broke a spell of seven straight pars with a pair of birdies to finally extricate himself from the weight of the sword, projected to fall at 3-under.

At the time of this report, Chawrasia still had four holes to navigate.
