2 July, 2016:  Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev flew the Indian flag in style again at this year’s Costa Smeralda Invitational, finishing in second place to Gianfranco Zola and handing over the coveted Blue Jacket to the legendary Italian football.

The Indian Cricketer of the Century, playing off a handicap of four, finished with a very impressive 34 stableford points on the challenging, but stunning Pevero Golf Club course in Sardinia. Afterwards, Dev joined up with European Ryder Cup captain and Costa Smeralda Invitational host Darren Clarke at the Hotel Cala Di Volpe to present Zola with his award.

Prior to his round, Dev met up with the 2011 Open Champion Clarke, who gave him and the other guests a masterclass in iron play on the practice range at Pevero Golf Club .

There was fierce competition right across the men’s celebrity competition, with players including Italian football legends Alessandro Del Piero and Roberto Di Matteo, Ukrainian top goalscorer Shevchenko, DJ Jamie Theakston and actor James Nesbitt.

This year the Costa Smeralda Invitational was proud to support the Road to Awareness campaign in aid of UNICEF, with all money raised going towards UNICEF’s vital water, sanitation and hygiene programmes.
