Nordea – 77 hurts Jeev Milkha Singh

June 07, 2015: Jeev Milkha Singh will leave Sweden with a tinge of disappointment after ending the week at 7-over 295. Though the 43 year old Indian managed to avoid the cut, living on the edge of the sword, his scores turned progressively higher at the PGA Sweden National in Malmo. Singh is working his way back from injuries and is seeking to make steady improvements to rediscover his best. But he is still some way away from finding the consistency that marked his glorious career.

The top men lead by Alex Noren (-11) and Maxmilian Kieffer (-9) and those among the final few groups were yet to make their way to the first tee when Singh completed his final round.

The Indian began his final round with a birdie at the first hole, before going on to make five consecutive birdies. Singh though suffered a big setback when he shot birdie at the 7th and a double  bogey six at the ninth hole.

Jeev fell to four over for the round when he made a bogey at the 10th hole and another at the 13th. Singh remained at six over by the 15th when he made a couple of pars, but he courted distress soon as he reached the 16th hole.

Singh made successive bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes before closing his pained argument with the course on a birdie at the final hole. A final round 77 meant that Singh left Malmo with a 7-over total of 295.

The Indian’s best golf came in the first two rounds when he shot 71 and 73 to reach the midway stage still on even terms with the course – just enough to help Jeev survive the knife on Friday.

But 74 and 77 in the third and fourth rounds showed up the Indian golfer’s rough edges – reminding him of the work that still needs to be done to compete at this level on his terms.

Shiv Kapur had missed the cut in Malmo after he made 72 and 74 in the first two rounds.
