May 29, 2014. The Nordea Masters kicked off today with our very own Jeev Milkha Singh and Shiv Kapur teeing off at the Swedish course. Jeev shot a one under par 71 to be tied 50th. Jeev picked up a few early birdies, two in the front nine and three in the back. The double bogie on the 17th didn’t leave him pleased.

But the day was particularly unhappy for Kapur, who had a great start to this week getting qualified for the US Open in Pinehurst. Kapur, who teed off the 10th first played mostly to par except for a couple of birdies in the first nine holes. But he seemed to have had a minor collapse as he played from the 1 to the 9th holes on the course – two bogie and a double bogie/ worse to close the first round wasn’t what the young Indian was looking for as he finished  four over par 76.

Sweden’s Jens Dantorp along with England’s Eddie Peperell led the Nordea Masters 1st round with both having opened the round and performed six under par. Peperell got three birdies in his last four holes while Dantorpe carded three. This has kept them ahead of the other two  players Dutchman Daan Huizing and Stephen Gallacher. Henrik Stentson who is at second position in the world rankings opened with a three under par 69. Defending Champion Ilonen got the first birdie and through three holes, remained one under. Dantorp on the other hand turned a brilliant 32 in after starting on the back 9. He then went on to gain further shots in the first and sixth.

The 24th Edition of the event of the tournament on European Tour, Nordea Masters that is held in Sweden, is seeing players vying for a prize purse of 1,500,000 euros. Sweden’s National Lake Course that is serving as the exclusive venue for this tournament is an 18 hole course spread extensively over 600 yards.
