July 29, 2013. It was genuinely a touching gesture when Phil Mickelson, holding his recently acquired prized possession, The Claret Jug, walked into the Callaway headquarters in Carlsbad, California. He wanted every one at Callaway to get a feel of the win, which their equipment, had made him experience at The Open. Mickelson made them touch the Claret Jug.

Dressed appropriately in Callaway style, in a black shirt, black pants and flip-flops — and carrying the British Open trophy — Mickelson looked very much the So. Cal kid during his impromptu visit.

“I know there’s a lot of you,” Mickelson said, according to Callaway’s Twitter page. “But I want everyone to hold the jug.”

During the awards ceremony at Muirfield, The 43-year-old gave a shout out to Callaway engineers for their work on the clubs that he said played a key role in his victory. But this was not enough and he decided to walk into Callaway headquarters to pronounce his gratitude once again.

Callaway staffers seemed overwhelmed by The Open Champion’s gesture.
