June 15: India’s Shiv Kapur continued to put in another spirited performance by signing for a one-over-par 71 at the third round of the U.S. Open on Saturday to be T23.

The 32-year-old Indian, who holds one Asian Tour title, mixed his card with six bogeys and five birdies to sign for a three-day total of four-over-par 214 at the year’s second Major held at Pinehurst No. 2.

Kapur, who is making his U.S. Open debut, will head into the final round in tied-23rd place, 12 shots back of runaway leader Martin Kaymer of Germany.

Kapur’s father, Ravi Kapur who is walking the course at the tournament said, “Shiv is in a good frame of mind and feels he belongs at this stage.Playing near perfect golf and staying patient has been the key.”

Kapur’s game has been solid at the US Open and he also credits a lot of that to the advise from his coaches who are present at the venue to give him timely suggestions. Kapur senior pointed out, “Bob was all praise for Shiv’s attitude, his inputs have been of immense help.Bob is a great guy to work with. Jamie has been Shiv’ coach for a while now and his presence here is very reassuring for Shiv.”
