Simi Mehra wins KGA leg of Hero Pro Tour

Aug 22, 2013. In a stellar surge Simi Mehra, India’s most decorated golfer came from behind and won the Hero Women’s Pro Tour KGA Tournament. She shot a 68 on the final round which helped her erase the 79 in R1 and 70 of R2. Barring a bogey on the 18th, Simi played brilliantly with birdies on 2nd, 5th, 9th, 10th, 15th and 16th.

 

Ankita Tiwana, the leader from the second round finished second followed by Gurgaon girl Vani Kapoor in the third position.

 

Kolkata-born Simi has many a firsts to her name, Simi is the first Indian woman to play professional golf and first to become a member of the U.S. based LPGA Tour.

 

Simi inherited passion for golf from her mother Billy Mehra, who was a national level golfer. Her brother Sanjeev too played golf at a professional level. Nevertheless, simi has taken family game to a new level. She attended University of Calcutta before turning professional in 1994.

 

There was a time when Simi had to leave India to pursue her career in the United States due to limited options in India. However, things changed with the launch of Indian women’s professional tour in 2006.
