April 24, 2014: Alvaro Quiros of Spain and Simon Dysonof England shot a five under par 67 to share the first round at the 20th Volvo China Open in Shenzhen.

On Indian front, Gaganjeet Bhullar was best placed on the leader board as he carded one-under 71 to lie tied 38th on Thursday. Shiv Kapur finished the day with one over 73. Jeev Milkha Singh scored four over 76 in the opening round.

A six-time winner of the European Tour, Quiros expressed satisfaction over his good form after the first round.

“It was a good round of golf,” said Quiros, who holed a six- footer at the last to join Dyson on five under told European Tour.

“It was a bit of a shame on the last par five because I was half a metre away from having a great chance to make another eagle but I ended up on the lip of the bunker and had to settle for a chip and two putts.

Dyson, on the other hand, has won this event in 2000 before it became sanctioned by The European Tour, and is looking to become the first player to capture the title twice.

The 36-year-old Englishman took time to kick off after a bogey on the opening hole. Once on track, he shot six birdies to make up for the initial loss.

“I started on the tenth today and the first nine holes I played was the best I have played for quite some time,” said Dyson, who too is in fray for seventh European Tour title.

Dyson and Quiros lead by one shot over defending champion Brett Rumford, English rookie Tyrell Hatton, his compatriot David Horsey and Spanish Challenge Tour graduate Adrian Otaegui, with Park Il-hwan and Alexander Levy four under playing the par five ninth when play was suspended due to bad light.
