October 04, 2015: The Hyderabad Golf Club was the site of a keenly contested junior golf tournament, this past week. The scenic golf course near Golconda in Hyderabad hosted the 1st DPS – Telangana Junior Open Golf Tournament 2015, marking yet another step in promoting junior golf in the country.
The event saw 95 young golfers between 6 and 17 years of age battle for honours. The children were drawn from 27 different Schools in the region. Pullela Gopichand was at hand to witness their game and provide words of support and encouragement to the young golfers. The former All England champion was the chief guest at the tournament.
Sunkeerth Reddy won the title in Category A for boys posting an 18 hole score of 77. Hardik Chawda finished second among the 16-17 years category A, after he made 80 on his trek around the course. Eshaan Eti was the second runner-up with an 18 hole total of 81.
Category B – for boys aged 13 to 15 saw a sensational performance from Rahul Ajay. The young boy dominated the show posting an impressive 72 (36 on either side) to score a massive 12 shot victory.
Ishita Chawla won the Category A&B for girls, which features players between ages of 13 through 17 years. Navjay Jayaswal won the boys category C for those aged 11&12, with Sneha Singh taking the title among the girls of the same age group.
Milind Soni and Amrita Mandava won the boys and girls titles respectively in the 9-10 category D. Among children aged 8 and under, Sasmit Babu Aligina and Srihitha Mandava took the category E titles with commanding performances.
The event was sponsored by Delhi Public School in association with Telangana Golf Association and Hyderabad Golf Club. Hyderabad Golf Club has been at the forefront of developing young talent, with nearly 100 young children training at the facility on a regular basis through their Junior Golf Training program.
