August 15, 2015: Amidst a disappointed exit from the PGA Championship, Tiger Woods is understood to have “committed to play” next week in the Wyndham Championship. The PGA Tour confirmed that his agent Mark Steinberg communicated as much on Friday. The missed cut at Whistling Straits marks a fourth in the last five majors for an embattled Woods. The 39 year old American shot 73 in the second round to slip down to four over – two worse than the cut line.

While he seems to have entered the event next week, Steinberg seems to have left the door open for an exit in stating that the golfer will assess and decide finally over the next few days.

Woods has never played the event in his career. The former world No.1 is currently lying 186th in the FedExCup standings. It could mean that he misses the playoffs for a second straight year.

The top 125 golfers qualify for the marquee event as at the end of the Wyndham Championship. Despite some laclustre golf, Woods seems to believe that he is very near to solving the riddle and rediscovering his touch.

“We’re obviously excited that Tiger has entered our field,” said Mark Brazil, the Wyndham Championship tournament director. “He still needs to finish his second round and see where he ends up.

“We have been in touch with Tiger’s agent all week and understand that Tiger has entered the field to keep his options open. We’re hopeful that he will tee it up at the Wyndham next week.”

Martin Kaymer and Adam Scott will also play the tournament. The field next week promises to be exciting, having managed to draw six former world No. 1 players, 16 major champions and eight former winners of the Wyndham Championship.

“It should be a world-class tournament at Sedgefield next week,” Brazil said.

The best of Woods came at the Masters, where he finished T17. He has only made five cuts this season, from nine starts. Woods found support from former world No. 1 David Duval. Duval was speaking on a program on the Golf channel, where he said, ” (the course) might suit him well and could prove to be a key turning point in what he is trying to do right now.”

“I like what it says with how he thinks he is progressing and what he is trying to accomplish,” Duval added.

“There’s plenty of golf to be played globally,” said Woods on the sidelines of the PGA Championship. “So the season’s, it is what it is, but calendar year I still have a lot of golf left.”

On his calendar so far, Woods is set to play in the 2015-16 PGA TOUR season opener, the Frys.com Open Oct. 15-18, and the Bridgestone America’s Golf Cup in Mexico Oct. 21-25 as well as his Hero World Challenge in December.
