The weather conditions Kapur shared were tough and challenging, making his qualifying much more satisfying. “I expected the worst but I realised how bad the weather was when I saw that the Irishmen and English were complaining about the wet cold conditions. It was a constant stop and start and later it was colder and rainy. However, all this made it all the more satisfying for me to qualify. When you can make it after playing in such conditions, it tells you, you are ready for the big stage.”

As a Callaway ambassador, Kapur was hailed by the India head of marketing Prashant Singh who said, “We are extremely excited about Shiv making it to the US open . This is a great moment for golf in India. Shiv is extremely talented and what he did at the British Open last year was sensational. Congratulations and best wishes to Shiv. Play well !”

Ten players have already qualified, with the last four places being fought out in a sudden death play-off by six players.
