Feb 08, 2018: Hometown favourite Brett Rumford has given his fans plenty to cheer about as he shot a blistering opening eight-under-par 64 at the on-going ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth.

The Australian carried his 2017 tournament-winning form into this year, carding 10 birdies against two bogeys to take the clubhouse lead by two shots.

Lee Westwood also played up to his top billing by carding a 66 to finish the morning session in second place. He had a near-flawless round, carding an eagle and five birdies against just a lone bogey at the par-three eighth.

Five players carded matching 67s to go into the clubhouse in tied-third – Australia’s Jason Scrivener, France’s Sebastien Gros as well as Asian Tour players Prom Meesawat of Thailand, Daisuke Kataoka of  Japan and Nicholas Fung of Malaysia.

Prom and Kataoka both enjoyed bogey-free rounds, while Fung scored seven birdies against two bogeys.

2016 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner David Lipsky also did well in his first round, carding a 68 to finish four shots behind the leader.

India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar carded one-under-par 71 with four birdies against three bogies and lying at T43. Other two Indian duo Ajeetesh Sandhu and Shiv Kapur had a rough start in the first round to close with one-over 73 and three-over 75 respectively.
