Gauri Monga is back with a bang

Aug 27, 2013. The year 2013 is proving its worth for Delhi golfer Gauri monga, which she can proudly call her come back year. She is just back with a win at Sri Lanka from the Ladies Amatuer Open.

It was in June this year, 20-year-old, Gauri beat back a strong challenge from in-form Gurbani Singh to win the Usha IGU Southern India Ladies golf tournament title. With this win, she also ended the title draught that has been haunting for almost two year. She is keen to retain her amateur status for now.

“I am really looking forward to two big challenges coming next year, The Asian Games at Incheon and World Amateur Open. I am preparing for it and want to give my best shot,” says beaming golfer.

Delhi girl says golf in her is genetic. Her mother Ashna has been playing golf for past 25 years, so does her father and also brother are golfers. She was just over three when she picked up golf but it took her a while to think it as a career.

After completing her Intermediate from Modern School, Delhi, she has chosen to pursue Business Management at Integrated Institute of Learning and Management, along with her golfing challenges.

Gauri has had a chequered career, which took off with her win at All India Ladies in 2010-11, when she also topped Order of Merit.

But her unfortunate suspension by Indian Golf Union for four months cost her an Asian Games appearance and then her school-leaving examinations put a break on her career. Though she couldn’t compete, Gauri practiced her game all day at the Delhi Golf Club.

A huge fan of Tiger Woods, Gauri sees her inspiration in him. When she is not golfing, she is either sleeping or listening to Music.

Gauri does not plan to turn profession any time soon; she wants to play in amateur circle. She wants to make best out of return of fete for now.
