Aug 28, 2013. Bangalore teenager Udayan Mane with brilliant round of 6-under 66 hit the front on the opening day of the Tata Steel Tamil Nadu Amateur being played at the Coimbatore Golf Club here on Tuesday. Syed Saqib Ahmed, also from Bangalore, who is just back from winning the Sri Lankan Open Amateur shot a 3-under 69 to be placed second along with Ainesh Ahluwalia.

Aman Raj with a total of 2-under 70 was in fourth position. As many as three players – Simarjeet Singh, IL Aalaap and Manu Gandas were tied for the fifth position at 71 while Gagandeep Sidhu and Vikram Rana shared the eighth spot at 72.

Udayan who began from the 10th, was at his best, making two birdies in the first four holes. Adding another birdie on the 17th, he was three-under for the day. However, one mistake on the 18th hole ended up with a bogey to take the turn at 2-under.

The bubbly youngster began strongly on his back nine making a birdie on the opening hole. Playing some superb golf, Udayan kept away from the dirt and finished in a great fashion making three birdies in his last four holes to be back in the club house as the leader.

“The weather was brilliant with the winds staying unusually quiet for most part of my round,” said Udayan after the round. “I was driving and hitting it well that actually overshadowed my short game. I am happy to end-up as the leader and hope to sustain my form,” he added .
