#IndianGolf: Women to the fore this week

A strong finish helped Aditi Ashok gain fifteen spots to end Stage II of LPGA and Symetra Tour Qualifying School in a tie for 24th place.

October 26, 2016: #IndianGolf is in throes of a tidal wave that is soaking us in a frothy concoction of joy and success. Fresh from relishing the successes of Anirban Lahiri, S Chikkarangappa and Gaganjeet Bhullar in recent weeks, it is the turn of our women golfers this week. Aditi Ashok is in Kuala Lumpur for the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia while there are five stars in action in the Sanya Ladies Open. Amandeep Drall, Vani Kapoor, Smriti Mehra, Saaniya Sharma and Neha Tripathi will wield their clubs in the Ladies Europea Tour event at the Yalong Bay Golf Club.

Aditi Ashok is coming off a stellar run of performances. She was inside the top 10 in her last four Ladies European Tour events before going on to seal a spot in Stage III of the LPGA and Symetra Tour Qualifying School event. The Final Stage of qualifying, where the top 20 earn a ticket to the LPGA for 2017 will be held in the first week of December.

vani-kapoorAditi Ashok has turned her season around with a solid run of results. Since missing the cut four times in a row and in five of her first seven events, the 18 year old has been unstoppable. Aditi Ashok was T9 in the Ladies European Masters, sixth in the Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de Espana Femenino, T10 in the Ladies Open de France and T8 in the Xiamen International Open. She was in Florida last week where she finished T24 in a field of high quality international players aspiring for a life on the LPGA Tour.

Four of the top five on the Hero Order of Merit, the list that ranks the performances of players on the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour of India. Amandeep Drall is leading the chart by a shade over Rs. 40,000 having won four of twelve events. Vani Kapoor is in second place, with six wins in eleven outings.

Neha Tripathi has two victories to her name. She has played all the 15 events so far this season and is lying third spot. Saaniya Sharma is reaping the rewards of her patience and hard work. She has also played all 15 events and even though still searching for victory, is lying in the fifth place on the Hero Order of Merit.
