September 07, 2016: India’s limited overs captain took to a lakeside golf course soon after his return from a hectic two match tour to the United States of America. India suffered a 1-0 series defeat in the short T20 series, after losing narrowly in the only completed match of the series. MS Dhoni sought to refresh and relax himself with some golf, in the lead up to the cricket series against New Zealand.

Dhoni isn’t the first Indian captain to play golf. Kapil Dev has been a serious golfer since his retirement in the last millennium. Sachin Tendulkar has played the game several times since his exit from the game.

Another cricketer who has taken to golf is Murali Kartik, the former India spinner. Several Australian cricketers play golf as a pastime.

Dhoni posted a selfie in a swanky black T-shirt midway through his golfing adventure. “Perfect weather and surroundings to play golf,” posted Dhoni to his Instagram account, mahi7781. At last count, the post received well over 200,000 likes and elicited over 1500 comments.

Dhoni has also been spending time with Sushant Singh Rajput, the man who plays the protagonist in the biopic based on the cricketer’s life story.

It is well known that Dhoni was a ticket inspector in the Indian Railways before steering himself into a cricket career.

Dhoni was under a bit of duress after he failed to score the two runs needed off the last ball in the first T20 against India. India was in a commanding position in the second match, but poor weather and a technical glitch related to the live broadcast cost them the match.

Any stress that Dhoni may have carried with him from the USA must have dissolved into the lake by the course, as he indulged in a memorable day of golf.
